Welcome Message

Welcome to the University of Warwick

On behalf of the team here I would like to extend a warm welcome to the University of Warwick. We look forward to you joining us on the English for Global Communication programme. We are sure that you will have an exciting and memorable time here at Warwick in the heart of England. When you come to the University of Warwick you will develop your English language skills in classes taught by experienced teachers who will give you maximum opportunities to practice your English through fun and engaging activities. Outside of class you will grow in confidence, as you use your English to experience life in Britain and make new friends. You will develop your understanding of intercultural communication, by helping you to understand, appreciate, and adapt to cultural differences.

During your time here, you will take part in a varied social programme and go on trips to London, Oxford, Birmingham, Warwick Castle and Stratford-upon-Avon. This will give you an experience of life in Britain as you learn about British history and culture while having fun trying new foods and shopping with friends. 留学には、見聞を広め異文化を直接体験するという大きな学びがあります。それに加え、自分のコンフォートゾーンから抜け出して新たな環境で様々なことに挑戦する機会を得ることもできます。そしてそれは、自分自身を知るという学びにつながります。留学により、世界中の人々と出会い、共同作業やプロジェクトを通じて言語スキルと知識を発展させながら、普段とは違うエキサイティングな教育環境の中で、講師や他の学生と実践的な関係を構築し維持することで、真の異文化コミュニケーションを体験します。

イギリス、ウォリック大学のEnglish for Global Communication（EGC）サマースクールでは、8月の1か月間、英語と異文化間スキルに焦点を当てた授業に参加します。キャンパスはイギリスの中心部、コベントリー市の南西約5キロメートルに位置し、湖、森、リラックスできる美しい庭園のある約300ヘクタールの自然の田園地帯にあります。バーミンガム市、ストラットフォード アポン エイボン、ワーウィック、ケニルワース、ロイヤルリーミントンスパなどの美しい歴史的な町へ簡単にアクセスできます。

サマースクールの授業は、現在のグローバル社会で必要なスキルを伸ばすように設計されています。プログラムへの参加によって、他大学のさまざまな国籍の学生と出会う機会が得られます。世界トップクラスの大学で学術生活やキャンパスライフを体験し、交流イベントや文化訪問のプログラムも楽しむことができます。参加者はキャンパス内の学生寮に滞在します。寮には、自分の寝室、共用のバスルームとキッチン、他の学生と交流ができる共有スペースがあります。

履修生は、春学期の土曜日午後に行われる3回の出発前研修すべてに参加必須となります。また、出発前の7月中旬には、ウォリック大学の担当者との事前オンラインミーティングにも参加します。これらの事前研修で、渡航手続きなどの準備を他の履修者と協力して進めます。

この留学プログラムの費用には、日本からの交通費、宿泊費が含まれます。ウォリック大学の学生登録をしますので、世界クラスのスポーツ施設や芸術センターなどのキャンパス施設も利用できます。また、文化的訪問や日帰り研修旅行のためのバス移動、毎週のスポーツや社交イベント、コース終了後の出席証明書も含まれます。

Studying abroad allows you to see the world and experience different cultures firsthand. It also allows you to get out of your comfort zone and learn more about yourself by overcoming difficult new situations and environments. You can meet people from all over the world and make new friends while developing your language skills and knowledge through collaboration and projects. You will deepen your understanding of intercultural communication by building and maintaining relationships with instructors and other students in a new and exciting educational environment.

The University of Warwick’s English for Global Communication (EGC) Summer School gives you the chance to study for a month at one of the top universities in the world, located in the heart of England. The campus is located three miles to the southwest of Coventry city centre and is set in nearly 300 hectares of natural countryside, with lakes, woods and beautiful gardens where you can relax. There is easy access to the major city of Birmingham, and the beautiful historic towns of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick, Kenilworth, and Royal Leamington Spa.

At the English for Global Communication (EGC) Summer School you will attend classes each day at the University of Warwick focused on developing your English, improving your intercultural skills while learning about British history and culture firsthand through a combination of preparatory lectures and trips. The summer school is designed to develop skills for working in the connected world of today's global society. By joining the program, you will have the opportunity to meet students from other universities of different nationalities, experience academic and campus life at a world-class university, and enjoy a program of social events and cultural visits. You will stay in one of the on-campus residence halls. Accommodation includes your own bedroom, shared bathroom and kitchen, and common spaces where you can socialize with other students.

Rikkyo students must attend all three pre-departure training sessions on Saturday afternoons in the Spring semester. In these training sessions, in addition to travel procedures, students will get to know other participants, and be prepared for life in the UK. There will also be a session on Saturday in September to reflect on what has been learnt and achieved.

The costs for this trip include all travel from Japan, accommodation, full registration as a Warwick student with access to campus facilities, including world-class sports facilities and an Arts Centre. Coach travel for all cultural visits and excursions, weekly sports and social events, and an end-of-course Certificate of Attendance are also included.
